Milan’s injury crisis just keeps getting worse, as Davide Calabria and Alexis Saelemaekers both went off in the first half against Empoli.

The Rossoneri had already gone into this evening’s Serie A game at the Stadio Castellani without Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Junior Messias, Alessandro Florenzi, Divock Origi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Just 33 minutes into the match, Saelemaekers went down clutching his knee and after some exercises on the pitch, medical staff advised a substitution.

Only five minutes later, Calabria suddenly pulled up in agony clutching the back of his thigh, a setback that allowed Empoli to have a dangerous scoring opportunity.

It was visibly a hamstring issue and Calabria was stretchered off the field.

More tests are needed, but it is likely the Italy international is out until after the break for the 2022 World Cup.

This is the worst possible news for Stefano Pioli, who is just starting a run of 12 games in 44 days between Serie A and the Champions League.
