UEFA has announced that Cuneyt Cakir will oversee Barcelona-Napoli at Camp Nou on Saturday and both clubs have bad history with the Turkish referee.

Cakir was at the whistle when Barcelona were eliminated by a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in last year’s semi-finals and on Saturday he’s back in charge when the Blaugrana host the Partenopei in Catalonia.

The 43-year-old was at the helm when Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli beat Genk 4-0 in the last match of the group stage, but the Azzurri have mixed experiences with the man from Istanbul.

Napoli have struggled against Spanish opponents with Cakir in charge, as Real Madrid won 3-1 against Maurizio Sarri’s team in 2017.

Cakir also oversaw the Champions League elimination to Athletic Bilbao in 2014, when he was later in charge of the 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg in the Europa League.

Napoli have won two of their six games with Cakir at the whistle, whilst Barcelona have only lost the one in nine.

Bahattin Duran and Tarik Ongun will assist Cakir in Barcelona, with Hamit Umut Meler as fourth official. Mete Kalkavan and Ali Palabiyik will be in the VAR box.
