Patron Urbano Cairo explained he had to convince Ivan Juric to take over at Torino, as the former Hellas Verona coach had ‘so many requests’.

During the presentation of Juric as the new head coach of the Granata, Cairo was asked when he understood the Croatian was the right man for the position.

“There was a union of views, even in dealing with things,” Cairo said at a press conference. “But the contact with [Hellas] Verona was involved, who had to make him available, and then it had to be closed because he had so many requests and it was not obvious.

“My perception was that there was sympathy and we had common intentions. We come from disappointing years, our recent history is not good. There’s no need to sugarcoat it.”

But the President doesn’t want to set a target for the coach, and said he thinks like Ivan Juric, who stressed he wants to bring an ‘aggressive football’ to the Grande Torino.

“When you have two years like Toro, it means there are various problems,” Juric said at a press conference. “You need to start form here, you must not deceive.

“We start by improving and to bring purposeful and aggressive football, making steps forward. Now is not the time to set a target.”
