Torino President Urbano Cairo felt Giampiero Ventura was “a bit too daring” against Spain but is backing Andrea Belotti to put “a difficult week” behind him.

Ventura was widely condemned for lining Italy up in a 4-2-4 formation during their 3-0 defeat to Spain, while Belotti was similarly criticised for his lack of impact against La Roja and Israel.

“It was a victory that we suffered for. Benevento deserved a draw, it must be said, but we didn’t give up and we finally broke through,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“Scudetto? "Juventus, Napoli and Inter seem to be the most equipped. Objectives? We want Europe, but we mustn’t limit ourselves: we must try to do more.

“Transfer window? Closing the summer window earlier is a good thing from a League perspective.

“It’s only right that no-one plays when players’ fates are being decided. Belotti? He had a difficult week, but he’ll be back among the goals again.

“Insigne? I don’t want to quote any prices for him, but Aurelio De Laurentiis certainly knows.

“Ventura? He’s very good and done excellently with the national team. Maybe against Spain, he was a bit too daring.

“On that occasion, he didn’t make the best choices, but he remains a very good CT.

“For Italy, it’s a time when experienced players are at a certain age and young players have yet to come to the fore.”
