Torino president Urbano Cairo reiterated he hasn’t been in contact with ‘anyone’ over a potential sale of the club to Red Bull, as he spoke about his side’s 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina which he defined as ‘undeserved’.
The Granata capitulated and remained scoreless for the second time in a row, in a match that also saw their striker Ché Adams forced off in the first half due to injury, piling more misery on Paolo Vanoli’s side, who lost four of their last five Serie A games.
Cairo said that he saw positive signs despite the defeat and that they ‘dominated’ the Viola in the second half, but answered impatiently when asked to comment on rumours about negotiations with Red Bull.
Inpatient Cairo slams ‘nonsensical’ questions on Torino sale to Red Bull
“I haven’t had contact with anyone, I said it on Monday and I can’t keep denying the rumours every time,” Cairo told reporters after the game, as quoted by TMW.
“Even if I listened [to potential buyers], should I say that to you? What kind of questions are you asking? Should I negotiate with you? These questions are nonsensical.”
Focusing on Torino’s fifth Serie A defeat, Cairo claimed he was more pleased than after their previous loss against Roma, adding that they can’t ‘throw everything away’ despite a difficult period.
“It was an undeserved defeat, in my opinion,” he said.
“Fiorentina are a good team who made a good winning streak and expect for that goal that we gave away they didn’t have any shots on goal today, after creating a lot in their last games.
“Today, I saw a balanced Torino in the first half, and I think we dominated in the second half. We stroke a post and we had a goal ruled out for half of a shoulder: I wasn’t happy against Roma, today I was a little more, but even at Roma we only conceded a shot on goal.
“The Lazio game is one thing, a defeat with a display I didn’t like… Today we didn’t deserve to lose, absolutely.
“It’s clear that if you lose too many games in a row, you have to focus, but let’s analyse things with a lucid mind. Otherwise, we throw everything away, and it’s wrong.”
Cairo had already denied rumours of potential negotiations with Red Bull last week after the Austrian energy drink manufacturers were described as willing to invest in a Serie A club.
The Granata will face Juventus in the Turin derby next week, a fixture they last won in 2015.
