Napoli have reportedly raised their offer for Nikola Maksimovic, but Torino President Urbano Cairo says ‘it’s too late’.

The Granata patron declared the initial €12m offer for the defender to be ‘inadequate’, so the Partenopei reportedly raised their bid to €15m.

However, with the new Serie A season getting underway at the weekend, the Toro President says no offer would make him sell Maksimovic now.

“Maksimovic is one of the best players I’ve had in 10 years as President,” Cairo declared in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“We absolutely don’t want to lose him. Only a few days ago Napoli offered €12m plus bonuses, a figure which is grossly inadequate for the player.

“I really like Napoli, so I’m really sorry, but Maksimovic is not going to Napoli. It’s too late, not even a crazy offer would change things.”

Cairo also confirmed that Italian Under-21 international Andrea Belotti will join the club.

“It’s not official yet, but we’re very close, we’ll announce it soon.”
