Torino President Urbano Cairo says Fabio Quagliarella won’t be sold – “he made a mistake, but I’ve already forgiven him”.

The Granata forward appeared to apologise to Napoli fans after scoring a penalty at San Paolo, drawing a furious reaction from the Toro faithful.

“I scolded Quagliarella,” Cairo confirmed to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He made a mistake, but I’ve already forgiven him. I didn’t appreciate his gesture: you can decide not to celebrate, but to apologise to the fans of your opponents is a fickleness which is just not done.

“He’s a good lad, born for Toro, and he loves these colours. Our fans are passionate and will forgive him.

“The lad wants to continue to show what he can do, and hasn’t asked to be transferred.”

Cairo was also asked about rumours the Granata are seeking to bring Ciro Immobile back to Turin.

“I only speak about the transfer market after the fact. We don’t look too favourably on buy-backs, but there are exceptions.

“We have important players like [Andrea] Belotti who we’ve invested heavily in, but if one of [Alessio] Cerci or Immobile want to come back…”

Finally, the Toro patron was asked about Nikola Maksimovic, who has been heavily linked with Napoli.

“The aim is to keep him,” Cairo replied.

“I asked him to stay until at least June. On Sunday I was impressed by his personality and authority.”
