Torino President Urbano Cairo wants to hold on to Nikola Maksimovic “at least until the end of the season”.

The defender has been heavily linked with a move to Napoli, but the Partenopei are only offering €18m, with the Granata holding out for €25m.

“I won’t clip anyone’s wings,” Cairo told reporters at a Press conference to present Ciro Immobile.

“If someone wants to leave then it’s right to let them go. But Nikola is an important player, so I want to hold on to him until at least the end of the season.

“For [Omar] El Kaddouri, it’s not a simple deal, because while the relationship between myself and [Napoli President Aurelio] De Laurentiis is good, they’d prefer to link the two deals.”

Cairo also spoke about the likelihood of Immobile staying beyond this summer, having returned to the Granata on loan after spells at Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla.

“Ciro strongly wanted to come back to Toro, and he’s brought some enthusiasm. The fans have perceived that he’s a good lad, and welcomed him in the best way.

“We really believe in the player, and we have a right of redemption. At the end of the season we’ll take the right decision, talking to Ciro too.

“I think he wants to stay though.”
