Torino President Urbano Cairo calls Napoli’s Aurelio De Laurentiis ‘my lucky charm’, and says the club’s transfer campaign is over.

The Partenopei patron declared yesterday that Toro’s Nikola Maksimovic was not worth more than the €12m being offered, and Cairo recalls similar situations for other players.

“De Laurentiis is my lucky charm,” Cairo told Radio 24.

“Years ago, he wanted [Angelo] Ogbonna and offered €5m, then I sold him [to Juventus] for €15m. He offered €10m for Darmian, and now we’ve sold him [to Manchester United] for €20m…

“Torino’s transfer campaign is officially over. We’re satisfied, even if the final verdict will come on the pitch.

“We sold Matteo Darmian because we’d made a promise and we wanted to respect it, but we’ve kept everyone else and the team will be stronger.

“[New signing Andrea] Belotti is a player we like a lot, he was our first choice, and in fact we’ve been trying everything to get him.”

Despite finishing above Milan last season and enjoying a run in the Europa League, Cairo insists the priority for the Granata is still survival.

“We have to work well on the pitch now and try to get good results. We shouldn’t feel pressure, the main thing is get to 40 points, then go from there.

“We do things step-by-step, without expecting anything.”
