Torino President Urbano Cairo is convinced that Andrea Belotti will leave the Granata as a free agent at the end of the season and hints that the striker hoped to join Milan four years ago.

Belotti’s contract expires in June and talks for an extension with the Granata have led nowhere so far.

“I think Belotti will leave Torino without letting us earn anything,” Cairo said in an interview with La Stampa.

“There should have been compensation for clubs when players leave at the end of their contracts. We signed Belotti for €8m from Palermo, who didn’t believe much in him.

“He’s given us a lot, but we’ve done the same,” Cairo continued.

“Perhaps, he was expecting to join Milan four years ago, but I could not interrupt that harmony that we had reached. With time, I’ve understood that it’s better to let a player leave if he wants it. If something changes inside his head, stress and injuries tend to improve.”

Insigne and Belotti to MLS for Toronto FC?

Milan were one of the clubs interested in signing Belotti in 2017 after his best season in Serie A.

The Italy international scored 26 goals in 35 league games in 2016-17, but Torino’s asking price was €100m at that time.

Toronto FC are now one of the clubs interested in signing the 28-year-old with the MLS side also in advanced talks with Lorenzo Insigne.

6 thought on “Cairo: ‘Belotti expected Milan move’”
  1. He finally admits he made a mistake, and what a huge mistake it was.

I hate to be that guy, but everybody told you so.

  2. You’d hate to be us too, since we’ve made that mistake three times already: Donnarumma, Kessie and Romagnoli. At least Cairo learned the lesson the first time.

  3. Frankly speaking Guys I don’t see Belotti succeeding at Milan , He is not good enough we have seen the example in international duty with Italy , Same as for Torino he is not brilliant forward anymore , He deserves to sign for the likes of Cagliari , Genoa or spezia May be hé can recover his goal scoring form

  4. He should go to TorontoFC with Insigne

They would be legends with big italian community in Toronto.

  5. If Belotti joins Milan for free, then he will be a good rotation player. I doubt he will be a starter for long, Milan need someone like Jonathan David from Lille.

  6. Time for Gallo to cash in. Go to MLS and see out your days in tranquility.

Even though I prefer he stay in his own nation to play football. Milan is not the club for him. Not because they are too big for him but Maldini has other things in mind.
