Inter’s transfer strategy suffered another blow with reports Cagliari will no longer negotiate Nahitan Nandez on loan, demanding the full €36m release clause.

The Uruguay international had long been a named target for the Nerazzurri, as they attempted to enact an exchange of sorts with Radja Nainggolan going to Sardinia permanently.

However, after weeks of talks, L’Unione Sarda newspaper claims Cagliari have suddenly scrapped all of the progress made.

They will now only accept the €36m release clause in his contract, not discussing a loan with option to buy.

Part of this is because Nainggolan is now in talks with Besiktas, removing the reason Cagliari had been ready to give Inter special treatment for Nandez.

Another issue is the injury to Marko Rog, which leaves the Sardinians with limited midfield options.

Nandez had for many months also been linked with Leeds United, but they would not pay the €36m fee either.
