Cagliari have announced Nahitan Nandez tested positive for COVID-19.

Ahead of the match against Spezia on Sunday, the Sardinians announced the new case of coronavirus through an official statement on their website.

“Following the latest health tests carried out, Cagliari Calcio announce Nahitan Nandez has tested positive for COVID-19,” the statement reads.

“The player was promptly isolated according to the regulations in force.”

Nandez was excluded from the squad that lost 2-0 to Juventus in Turin last weekend, as the midfielder had returned from international duty with Uruguay, who had an outbreak of cases in their team group.

Uruguay teammate Diego Godin tested positive upon his return to Sardinia, but Nandez was still negative.

The Rossoblu informed that ‘all the other members of the team group have tested negative and continue the fiduciary isolation at home, with the possibility for all athletes to carry out regular training and match activities’.

“The club remains in constant contact with the health authorities and will continue to observe the provisions of the protocol."
