Cagliari have released a statement insisting they have not promoted Diego Lopez to the first team job, but didn’t rule out sacking Massimo Ficcadenti either.
The reports have been swirling round for the last few days that the Coach would be axed after the 2-1 home defeat to Pescara.
The Sardinians are the only team left in Serie A without a victory this season, prompting claims Lopez would be promoted from the Primavera youth team position.
However, Cagliari released a statement this evening denying the reports and pointing out Lopez does not have the requisite paperwork to be a Serie A Coach.
“If and when we should announce a new Coach, such a decision would be made with the fundamental respect of the rules.
“When and if the decision is made, the reins will be handed to a Coach who has the specific credentials to be in charge of the first team.”
