Cagliari announced Diego Godin tested positive for COVID-19 and has decided to leave Uruguay teammate Nahitan Nandez out of the trip to Juventus.

The Rossoblu defender returned from his duties with Uruguay, who beat Colombia 3-0 and lost 2-0 to Brazil during the international break.

Godin, who moved to Cagliari from Inter ahead of the season, tested positive for coronavirus and the club has decided to exclude Nandez from the squad playing against the Bianconeri this weekend.

“The player [Godin], who returned yesterday from his commitments with the Uruguayan national team, did not come into contact with the members of the team and was promptly isolated,” the statement read.

“The test to which Nahitan Nandez was subjected, who also returned yesterday from Uruguay, was negative. Although this is not a due act, the club, in agreement with the medical staff, decided as a precaution to exclude him from the squad for the Turin match in order to protect all the people who would have come into contact with him.”

Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was in the same squad as Godin and Nandez, whilst Fiorentina will have Martin Caceres back from the Uruguayan group.
