Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini admits it was better for all concerned that Claudio Ranieri turned him down for Leicester City.
The Sardinians are celebrating after last night’s 3-0 win away to Bari secured promotion into Serie A, but it was almost very different.
“I am happy to have made Ranieri an offer last summer, but I’m also happy that he did not accept, considering what he managed to do in the Premier League,” Giulini told Sky Sport Italia.

Ranieri took Leicester to their first ever Premier League triumph, beating 5,000-1 odds, but still kept a close eye on his former club.
He was at the helm of Cagliari from 1988 to 1991.
“Our Coach Massimo Rastelli is similar to Ranieri and they both represent marvellous fairy-tales.
“It has been a complicated season, but this promotion is thanks to the hard work of our director of sport and our Coach. There was a wobble recently, but our players are also great men and we managed to make our dream come true.
“We want to build above all on our big players. Speaking of which, we can finally announce that we’ve agreed a contract renewal with Joao Pedro.”
