Cagliari are reportedly considering position of coach Walter Mazzarri after seven defeats in eight rounds, especially as the tactician himself admits he is ‘waiting for news.’

The Sardinians risk relegation after today’s 2-1 home loss to Hellas Verona, their seventh loss in the last eight games.

They are three points clear of the drop zone, though Salernitana and Venezia both have two games in hand.

Mazzarri was visibly shaken after the defeat and told DAZN it was a situation in flux.

“We were so weak and sluggish in defence, so disorganised and failing to communicate with each other. I told the lads, this defeat really hurts.

“If you don’t give it your all and keep the tempo up in football, you risk defeat. I spoke to the squad, we did not expect to be in this situation with three games left.

“I spoke to the squad, then left them alone to discuss it among themselves. They will give me their response.”

Now Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia report that Cagliari are considering a change of management, which would be the third of the campaign.

Mazzarri only took over from sacked Leonardo Semplici on September 15, 2021, averaging 0.88 points per game.

It’s rumoured President Tommaso Giulini is hesitating because he is not convinced by the other alternatives, which could be a return of Semplici or bringing in Diego Lopez, which would only be a short-term option.

There was a great deal of tension in Sardinia after the final whistle, the ultras shouting abuse at the players, who stood under the Curva accepting the insults.

  1. It might be time to make a move.

Get Ranieri in. He should save the day & create at least some short term stability
