Cagliari have reportedly agreed a deal worth €5m plus add-ons for Clermont and Poland international defender Mateusz Wieteska.

According to Sportitalia and Sky Sport Italia, the clubs are very close to finalising the details and he should be in Italy for a medical over the next 48 hours.

It is a payment of circa €5m plus a percentage of the sell-on fee, while he signs a four-year contract worth €500,000 per season.

The 26-year-old is primarily a centre-back, but can also play on the right side of defence.

Ligue 1 side Clermont signed Wieteska from Legia Warsaw in the summer of 2022 for €1.3m and his contract runs to June 2026.

Despite being a defender, he is also very effective in attack, contributing one goal in just two Ligue 1 appearances already this season.

Wieteska was part of the Poland squad that participated in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Cagliari are back in Serie A under coach Claudio Ranieri, earning a goalless draw away to Torino in their opener for the 2023-24 campaign last week.
