Cagliari have asked for the 2015-16 Serie A season to be postponed until Atalanta face match-fixing charges.

The prosecutor of Cremona has recommended 104 people face trial, so now a judge must evaluate the evidence in a preliminary hearing before deciding who will go on to a full trial.

These allegations stretch back to 2011 and one of those put forward is former Atalanta Coach Stefano Colantuono – now at Udinese.

If Colantuono is found guilty, then Atalanta could be held indirectly accountable and penalised.

Cagliari have sent a letter to the FIGC asking for “immediate action. There are founded and relevant reasons to revoke or put in doubt the regularity of the campaign this club took part in.”

They feel if Atalanta are found guilty, they should be docked points and therefore relegated from Serie A.

The next club in line to replace them in the 2015-16 campaign would be Cagliari, who went down over the summer.

“Our rapport with Atalanta is excellent, we are just asking if there are modifications to last season’s Serie A table that they be done quickly,” said Cagliari director Stefano Filucchi.

“Our transfer market is based around a certain situation. If things should change, we would be in a difficult position. We respect Atalanta, but also defend the rights of Cagliari and our fans.
“We want clarity and speed.”

However, sources within the FIGC hinted they are unimpressed by Cagliari’s actions and will shrug off attempts to change the table for events that occurred four years ago.

The start of the Serie B season has already been delayed to September 5 due to uncertainty over a different match-fixing case involving Catania and the bankruptcy of Parma.
