Cagliari appoint Liverani, Alvini set for Cremonese

Cagliari have officially appointed Fabio Liverani as their new coach, while newly-promoted Cremonese are expected to hire Massimiliano Alvini.

The Sardinians were relegated to Serie B along with Genoa and Venezia, failing to get the win they needed in the final round of the season against the Lagunari.

They were already without a permanent coach at the time, having fired Walter Mazzarri, and had several meetings with potential new bosses including Pippo Inzaghi and Aurelio Andreazzoli.

This evening, Cagliari announced they have hired Liverani, who was the coach of Parma until his dismissal in January 2021.

Previous clubs were Genoa, Leyton Orient, Ternana and Lecce.

Meanwhile, Serie A new boys Cremonese are ready to announce Alvini as their new tactician after he terminated his contract by mutual consent with Perugia.

It will be Alviniā€™s debut experience in Serie A as a coach, the 52-year-old has spent practically his entire career in the lower leagues, taking over Perugia for the 2021-22 campaign.

Fabio Pecchia had been on the Cremonese bench to earn their promotion from Serie B, but walked away for a new challenge at Parma.
