Former Roma full-back Cafu says only Francesco Totti can say if he should hang up his boots.

The Giallorossi captain appears unlikely to be offered a new contract by the club, but has expressed his desire to keep playing, and scored twice against Torino last night.

“Totti is Totti,” Cafu told Adnkronos.

“Age comes to us all. To me and to a great champion like him. He alone knows whether it’s the right time to stop playing, we can’t decide if he should stop or not, it’s him who knows.

“He’s the one who trains and he knows how he is physically.

“He’s a champion, and it’s always a shame when someone like him retires, but we hope he can do well anywhere and in any role, as a Coach, as a director or as a player.

“As a friend I wish him well.”

The World Cup-winner was then asked for his opinion on the Lupi’s season, with Luciano Spalletti’s side currently third in Serie A.

“I follow the Italian League and Roma very closely. Spalletti has given the Giallorossi a new lease of life [since replacing Rudi Garcia].

“They’re slowly climbing, but unfortunately the season is almost over.

Juventus are always Juventus, they never give up and when they open a point gap over their rivals they don’t often let it slip. It’s still an interesting League though.

“Can Roma win the Scudetto next year? Of course, that’s why Spalletti is there, to take the team as far as possible.

“In my opinion they can do it.”
