Martin Caceres has spoken of his initial difficulty at settling in Turin, but has thanked several former Juventus players.

The Uruguay international is currently in Brazil preparing for his national side’s first game of the tournament against Costa Rica on Saturday.

However, the 27-year-old has taken time out to reflect on his club career, including his time at Barcelona and the challenges he faced at the Bianconeri.

“In Barcelona I was big friends with Samuel Eto’o – we were together a lot.

“At the training ground I was also friendly with Dani Alves and Messi because of the South American connection.

“I had a really good relationship with Messi – he’s a great professional and does everything right on and off the pitch.

“When I moved to Juventus [in 2009] I had a little trouble with the language, but thankfully I was able to speak with Trezeguet and Mauro Camronesi.

“They both lived three minutes from me, so we were together almost every day.

“Juve is a great club.”
