The veteran Uruguay international was a free agent after taking part in the Copa America this summer and decided on a return to Serie A.
“At the age of 32, some thought I’d want to retire or just go and earn money. If it weren’t for (Viola director of sport Daniele) Pradè, perhaps I would’ve chosen a different destination,” confessed Caceres in his Press conference.
“I feel good and still want to enjoy my football, but I also have a lot to prove. It’s a magnificent city and a great atmosphere with so many changes. I spent much of my career at Juventus, but hope to remain for a long time here in Florence too.”
Caceres, Franck Ribery and Kevin-Prince Boateng are old hands who have played for bigger clubs and are trying to impart their knowledge to the new boys.
“Having the likes of Boateng and Ribery showing so much enthusiasm in training is the best thing, as at the age of 36 he just won’t hold back in a single session. It’s so valuable for the younger players to see that.
“I’ve been really surprised by the talent of Federico Chiesa, Riccardo Sottil and Gaetano Castrovilli. I was impressed and they have the quality to do well both for Fiorentina and Italy.
“Chiesa is humble and a good lad. There’s been so much talk about him, but the important thing is that he keeps his head firmly on his shoulders for as long as he’s here.”
