Head of FIFA Refereeing Massimo Busacca is ready for “an historic day” as VAR technology is tested tonight in Italy-France.

The international friendly kicks off at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT), follow the action on our LIVEBLOG.

This will be the first ever test of VAR (Video Assistant Referees) at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari.

“It’s an historic day. We begin this experiment and will see if this technology can help football and referees to identify incidents better,” Busacca told Rai Sport.

“Yesterday we spoke to the Coaches and the players. If the technology gives a good response, then we’ll have a ‘real’ test.

“We already saw with goal-line technology how well it worked and how easy it was to implement. We all agree that we no longer want to see any scandals.

“Of course we won’t sit there for hours going over the tiniest contact. It has to be a really obvious incident.”
