Roma’s Argentine centre-back has been out of action since mid-November after suffering a serious knee injury whilst on international duty.
Talking to South American magazine El Graph this month, the former Inter man detailed both the harm he did to his joint and the support he has received during his recovery.
“It was the first serious injury of my career,” he reflected.
“I managed a ‘combo’, completely breaking my posterior cruciate ligament, the two menisci and the medial collateral ligament, whilst I also fractured the tibial plateau.
“I’ve received many messages of support, especially from Coaches such as [Jose] Mourinho, [Andre] Villas Boas, [Carlos] Bianchi and Antonio Conte, even though he doesn’t know me.
“Up until January 20, I could not even put my foot on the ground, but now I can bend my knee.
“My goal is to do the rest of my recuperation with the team.”
Burdisso has recently returned to Trigoria to do just that. Meanwhile, the interview also brought up the player’s view of his captain, Totti.
“He is the equivalent to the Pope. People are devoted to him, but Francesco deserves it – he is a leader and is always able to express words of praise for his teammates.”
