Napoli have a plan in mind to beat out Milan and Inter to talented Torino centre back Alessandro Buongiorno this summer.

The 24-year-old centre back, who is a part of Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad for the upcoming European Championship, proved himself to be one of the brightest defenders in Serie A, attracting the attention of a number of top clubs across the peninsula.

Torino have accepted that Buongiorno will likely leave for greener pastures this summer but aren’t willing to let him leave for cheap, setting a €40m price tag on the defender, who is contracted to the club to June 2028.

Napoli strategy for Buongiorno

Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com details how Napoli are looking to take advantage of their rivals’ split priorities in the transfer market, wanting to close out a deal for Buongiorno as soon as possible. Imminent coach Antonio Conte has already approved of the move, allowing things to progress.

Partenopei sporting director Giovanni Manna has already been in contact with the defender’s agent Giuseppe Riso and the plan is to open official talks with Torino in the coming days, trying to avoid the risk of a price increase following the European Championship.

Milan director Geoffrey Moncada has also been in contact with Riso, but for now the Rossoneri’s priority is to pick up a new striker, the same position shared by Inter.
