Sides in Germany’s top two divisions have been training individually since April 6 and the country has suffered just 6,993 deaths from coronavirus compared to almost 30,000 recorded in Italy and England.

“The Bundesliga will be able to restart from the second half of May,” Merkel announced this afternoon.

Sides in Germany’s top two divisions have been training individually since April 6 and the country has suffered just 6,993 deaths from coronavirus compared to almost 30,000 recorded in Italy and England.

“The Bundesliga will be able to restart from the second half of May,” Merkel announced this afternoon.

“Obviously it’ll have to be done while respecting proper hygiene rules.”

The ball is now in the court of the German Football League (DFL) to confirm the season can resume, with May 15 the likeliest date. 

However, Werder Bremen are among a minority of sides who would like an extra week of preparation.
