Gigi Buffon discussed his kit choices at Parma, Juventus and PSG. “I think I was the first goalkeeper to systematically cut my sleeves.”

The Italy legend posed for L’Equipe’s magazine Sport & Style in a series of different fashion looks.

He was asked if children become goalkeepers so they can dress differently?

“That’s true, in part. I wanted to be different from the others. I wanted my own particular outfit: my gloves, my cap, and a role with a lot of responsibility,” replied Buffon.

“I think I was the first goalkeeper to systematically cut my sleeves. I was also one of the first to want to wear my team’s kit, at Parma.

“When we played at home I wore the away shirt and vice-versa. It was my way of showing that I wanted to be a part of the team.

“The sleeves weren’t to show off my muscles or anything like that, it’s for convenience and to feel more comfortable. And I feel more when the ball touches my forearms.”
