Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon insists his red card against Real Madrid ‘remains an injustice’ and that ‘I suffered in silence’.

Buffon made his first Champions League appearance of the season during PSG’s 1-1 draw with Napoli on Tuesday, having served a three-match ban for protesting to referee Michael Oliver when Madrid were awarded a 97th-minute penalty against Juventus back in April.

“I’d missed this competition very much,” he said after the game.

“That red remains an injustice. I suffered in silence and waited a long time for tonight.

“Whenever Napoli called me into action, I tried to be ready and it went quite well.

“It was a delicate encounter. We really gave it a go and the draw was an honest result.”
