Juventus Coach Gigi Del Neri publicly criticised the Italy international goalkeeper, telling journalists that it would be nice if he were closer to the team.

Buffon was at the stadium on Saturday night for Juventus' match against Roma, but he did not salute his teammates before or after the game.

The player's entourage were quick to play down the affair, saying that: "As soon as Gigi frees himself from his commitments he will turn up."

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that his attitude is not appreciated within the club, although it remains distinctly unlikely that he will leave in January even amid reported interest from Manchester United.
