Juventus boss Gigi Del Neri has promised to work Buffon back into the team gradually and will start the Italy international in this evening's Coppa Italia clash with Catania.

Buffon last appeared in Serie A 243 days ago on May 15, 2010 when Juventus pulled the curtain down on last season against Milan.

Del Neri insists his decisions will be purely meritocratic and that the 'keeper who performs best in training will get the starting berth.

Marco Storari has continued to impress as Buffon's stand-in. He was arguably the best Juventus player in their recent defeats to Napoli and Parma.
