Gianluigi Buffon looked ahead to Juventus’ upcoming Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain and reflected on his time at both clubs.

The Italian shot stopper spent 17 years of his career with the Bianconeri from 2001 to 2018 before leaving for the French capital, where he spent a single season. After returning to Turin, Buffon stayed for two more years before returning to Serie B outfit Parma, the club where he started his career.

Speaking to AFP, Buffon first reflected on his experiences at Juventus and PSG ahead of their upcoming Champions League clash.

“I have spent my life with Juventus, so it is inevitable that there is a strong bond built on everything we have lived together over the last 20 years.

“But I also have special memories of Paris, of my teammates, of the fans. It was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life as a footballer and as a man. It’s a pity that this match doesn’t matter much.”

The 44-year-old Italian goalkeeper gave his thoughts on Juventus’ on-pitch difficulties this season.

“It has been a very difficult season and injuries to important players have complicated things.

“According to my experience, I think you can’t understand what could be the problem and what could be the solution without living in the locker room and knowing the group dynamics and the communication between the coach and the players.”

Finally, Buffon discussed PSG’s Champions League ambitions and if this is finally the year they lift the trophy.

“Every year seems to be the right one. Paris, in the last seven or eight seasons, has always had a team that could have won. But from there to really succeeding there are details, which sometimes also depend on luck. But every year PSG is among the favourites.”

Buffon made 25 appearances for PSG during his year in the French capital, conceding 25 goals and keeping nine clean sheets. He made 685 appearances for Juventus, winning 10 Scudetti.
