Buffon completed his long-awaited free transfer to PSG on Friday evening, penning a one-year contract with the French giants, which includes the option for a second season.

“It’s a huge honour to sign for Paris Saint-Germain,” the former Juventus goalkeeper, who turned 40 in January, told the club’s official website.

“For the first time in my career, I leave my country and only a project as ambitious as this one could’ve convinced me to make such a decision.

“I thank the club and President for their faith in me. They’ve grown a lot in the last few years, they’re a team who have entered the hearts of people.

“I’ll bring all my energy, experience and thirst for victories to help my new club achieve the objectives that they will set.

“With my teammates and our fans, we want to give great emotions to not only our own stadium but also those all around the world, where we’ll represent a wonderful city like Paris, which deserves to see their club at the pinnacle of world football.”
