Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon believes it would be “presumptuous” to talk about the Scudetto, targeting Champions League qualification.

The Bianconeri have lost three of their opening six games of the season, and currently lie in 15th-place in Serie A.

“It would be superficial and presumptuous to talk of the Scudetto now,” Buffon admitted, speaking to Mediaset.

“Were we too contented? There could have been some initial contentment, but if that had been in anyone’s mind it’s definitely gone now.

“The Champions League places have to be a target, it’s the natural habitat of Juventus and the players on this team.

“At Christmas I hope to be able to say that Juventus are in the second round of the Champions League, and hope for a lucky draw.

“With regards to the League, I’m sure we’ll be in the top half of the table, in a mid-to-high position.”
