‘Buffon open to Porto move’

Gianluigi Buffon’s agent has revealed that the goalkeeper is ‘interested’ in replacing Iker Casillas at Porto.

Casillas is likely to announce his retirement in due course after suffering a heart attack at Porto’s training ground last month.

Buffon, meanwhile, spent the 2018-19 campaign at Paris Saint-Germain, playing 25 times in all competitions and winning the Ligue 1 title.

However, the former Juventus and Italy shot-stopper is now a free agent after rejecting a new contract.

“The idea of playing for Porto interests Gigi,” Silvio Martina told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

“However, there isn’t a serious offer on the table and we haven’t met anyone yet.

“He would be open to making the move. After all, we’re talking about a club with a great history, who play in the Champions League.”

The veterans have long been rivals for club and country but have always held each other in high esteem.
