Gianluigi Buffon was extremely positive about the arrival of Angel Di Maria at Juventus, believing him to be ‘an absolutely top player’.
The 34-year-old Argentinian forward signed a one-year contract with the Bianconeri yesterday, joining as a free agent following his contract’s expiration with Paris Saint-Germain. Di Maria will be a short-term boost to Massimiliano Allegri’s attack, giving him some more firepower while Federico Chiesa continues his long recovery.
Speaking to La Stampa, Buffon spoke highly of Di Maria and underlined why he’ll be a great addition to Allegri’s Juventus side.
“He has always been a bit in the shadow and honestly I have never understood why, he has nothing to envy from anyone, football follows logics that are not always understandable.
“We are talking about an absolute top player, yet capable of sacrificing himself for his teammates, in my team he would always play.
“It’s a great coup, and moreover for free. I have the feeling that in Italy he is not fully respected, but they will quickly realise his value.”
Di Maria spent seven years with PSG from 2015 to 2022, proving himself to be one of the best productive forwards in the world. He scored 93 goals and provided 119 assists in 295 appearances across all competitions, and he’ll likely shine in Serie A.
The Argentinian forward will wear the shirt number 22, which he last wore during his time with Real Madrid.
