In the second part of his interview with La Stampa newspaper, Gigi Buffon said that Juventus made no mistake by not renewing Paulo Dybala’s contract and shared his view on Gigio Donnarumma’s season.

The legendary Italy goalkeeper spoke to the Turin-based paper about the Azzurri and partially blamed the CT Roberto Mancini La Nazionale’s World Cup elimination at the hands of North Macedonia in March.

However, he also discussed Juventus’ decision not to extend Paulo Dybala’s contract. The Argentinean will leave the Allianz Stadium in the summer after the end of his deal.

“I didn’t expect it,” admitted Buffon. “But the club was clear and honest, explaining that he is no longer part of the project.

“That’s why they didn’t extend his contract, not because he is not good enough. Paulo will have other opportunities to do well in the future, but that wouldn’t mean that Juventus were wrong.”

Buffon played his last game with the Azzurri in 2018 and has been replaced by Gigio Donnarumma. The PSG star was named Player of the Tournament at the Euros, but has had a tough debut season in France, where he arrived last summer after the end of his contract with Milan.

“Time and performances will heal everything, but now no more imperfections are allowed,” said Buffon. “Each one of us has gone through it, but he won’t have any problem thanks to his quality.”

Buffon has conceded 25 goals in as many Serie B appearances at Parma this season, keeping eight clean sheets.

  1. Do you guys know that Buffon means Clown? 😀

How can you say club was honest when they have reached agreement and then broke their word?!

Gigi is just a juventus loyal spokesperson.

  2. Show some respect clown face – Gigi is the best goalkeeper Italy has ever produced. Unless a contract is signed, Juventus, like any club or player, can change their minds. When the player continually gets injured and shows disrespect to the club hierarchy, the club has a right to say, you know what, we’re done.
