Gianluigi Buffon was honest when weighing in on the Coppa Italia final between Atalanta and Juventus, hoping to see his former club lift the trophy in Rome.

The two sides are ready to battle it out for the Coppa Italia on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time at the Stadio Olimpico, a vitally important fixture for both teams at the tail end of the 2024-25 season.

For Atalanta, it would finally be a trophy under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, whilst it would give something positive for Massimiliano Allegri and Juventus after an incredibly difficult campaign. Both coaches have been linked with moves away in the summer.

Buffon on Coppa Italia final

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia via TMW, Buffon first gave his thoughts on the upcoming Coppa Italia final between Atalanta and Juventus, predicting the clash at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Juventus can win, I think it’s on the table, because Juve have more of a habit of playing certain games than Atalanta. It’s clear that Atalanta get there much better.

“Since Gasperini’s arrival a way of working, a way of thinking has been changed and I think he has done something epochal in these years, he has truly marked a small era and if he manages to crown this path with a victory, it would be the final seal on this incredible journey.”

Buffon then spoke about which team he’d like to win the Coppa Italia final, referencing the upcoming Europa League final between la Dea and Bayer Leverkusen.

“Indeed, between the two if I really have to choose, I hope they win the Europa League and Juve win the Coppa Italia. And I think that in the end they (Atalanta, ed.) would be happy too.”
