Gigi Buffon insists Inter and Juventus should “put Calciopoli behind us,” and claims the 2006 Germany-Italy game “was the most important of my career.”

Tomorrow night's friendly in Dortmund is a replay of the 2006 World Cup semi-final, won by Italy 2-0 in the last moments of extra time.

“That was the most important, most wonderful and most exciting match of my Italy career, probably even more than my debut or the World Cup Final,” declared Buffon.

“It represented the victory of Italian immigrants in Germany and our victory against a German side that was playing on home turf and over-riding favourites. It was just wonderful.”

The goalkeeper makes his Azzurri comeback tomorrow, having been out since undergoing back surgery during the 2010 World Cup in June.

He is also looking ahead to Sunday's Serie A Derby d'Italia, as Juventus face old rivals Inter.

“Enough of looking to the past. I think we've talked about Calciopoli enough. I want to look forward, as the past is important, but the future even more so.”

Further controversy spiced up this game after Juventus complained of refereeing errors against them.

“It is beyond doubt that this season some incidents went against us, but I am a sportsman and remain convinced they are simple mistakes. I never thought there was anything behind it. As for Inter, we are taking on the strongest side in the world.

“Juventus are back on track now and I hope the worst is past. We did not let ourselves get swept up by negativity, but now to confirm the improvement, we have to do well against Inter.”
