The Spanish veteran played his 1000th official game against Belenenses last night, though his side were defeated 2-0.
Casillas becomes the eighth goalkeeper to achieve the very rare feat, joining Peter Shilton, Rogerio Ceni, Ray Clemence, Pat Jennings, David Seaman, David James and, of course, Buffon.
“Ciao Grande Iker,” Buffon said in a message posted on Porto’s official Twitter account.

“I don’t know if you recognise me because I got a bit older, but I’m Gigi Buffon.
“They told me that you’ve reached a professional milestone and I wanted to give you big compliments because I think you can be really proud to have reached such a number.
“It’s clear that when one plays 1000 games, a lot of time has also passed and you might have more wrinkles, but we carry them with great dignity and when we go onto the pitch, in my opinion we show and you still show you’re able to accompany 20-year-olds and that’s what counts.
“In the end the real youth is what you have inside you, what we have in our spirit and carry through our lives.
“I want to extend many compliments and a great deal of esteem to you and enjoy your 1000 games.
“A hug and a salute, Gigi.”
Only two Italian players have ever reached 1000 games, with the other being Paolo Maldini who played 1028 games for Milan and Italy.
