Gianluigi Buffon gave his thoughts on the goalkeeping situation at Inter, Milan’s acquisition of Mike Maignan and the best shot stoppers in the world today.

The 44-year-old Italian goalkeeper is the club captain of Serie B side Parma, where he’s contracted to 2024, but has struggled for consistent minutes this season, only making three appearances due to a slight hamstring injury. Buffon made 657 appearances in Serie A throughout his career, being a club legend at Juventus

Speaking to DAZN, Buffon first discussed Inter’s usage of goalkeepers Andre Onana and Samir Handanovic, who have rotated in the starting 11 this season.

“Sharing the spot can be a benefit for the goalkeeper who feels like a starter. In the last few years at Juve, with Neto and Szczesny, and at PSG with Areola.

“I always gladly accepted it, because knowing that there was someone who could relieve me at certain times of the season was a relief.”

He gave his thoughts on Rossoneri shot stopper Maignan, who was awarded the best goalkeeper award at the Gran Gala del Calcio yesterday.

“I congratulated Maldini for buying him, when I was in Paris he impressed me.”

The 44-year-old spoke picked his top three goalkeepers in the world today.

“Courtois, Donnarumma and Oblak/Neuer.”

Finally, Buffon discussed the best emerging goalkeepers in Serie A.

“In the last two years the goalkeeper pool has filled up again. Provedel at Lazio and Falcone at Lecce are finding their size, but I think Vicario can aspire to the national team.”
