Gianluigi Buffon has confirmed he will still continue and hinted about a possible move to Parma in Serie B for ‘a return to my origins, which leverages feeling and gives me the motivation to do well’.

The 43-year-old goalkeeper leaves Juventus when his contract expires this month and multiple reports in Italy claims he is close to signing a two-year deal with Parma.

Buffon presented his new goalkeeper academy and revealed he has decided to continue playing, but didn’t reveal where he is planning to go.

“The decision to quit was prevailing,” he said, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. “But now I’m sure that I will continue, because I feel strong and I don’t party alone.

“The esteem of my teammates made me understand that I’m someone who does it right and that I have to continue.

“I have many proposals on the table. There are teams in the Champions League that have offered me a leading role, others that aspire to win it but want me as a back-up, and I only played that role for Juve.

“Then there would be the return to my origins, which leverages feelings and gives me the motivation I need to do well.

“I’m putting everything on the table, in three to four days I decide, I have to figure out which is the best thing to be a protagonist.”

Buffon also said the Champions League wouldn’t be the same without Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid, who could face sanctions for their involvement in the breakaway Super League.

“I believe that without them the competition should change its name,” he said. “It’s impossible to imagine it without them, you cannot take away the three teams that have made history and give others great motivations.

“When I was at Parma and PSG, I lived these challenges like magical nights.”
