Gianluigi Buffon played a match in the Parma jersey for the first time in 7,339 days, as the Serie B side lost a friendly to VfL Bochum 1848.

The 43-year-old goalkeeper decided to continue his career where it started, at the Stadio Tardini, having left for Juventus in 2001 for what was then a world transfer record fee of €53m.

He took to the field during today’s pre-season friendly against Bochum at the Campo Comunale Bressanone, under the guidance of coach Enzo Maresca.

This was the ‘debut’ for Buffon, who marked the occasion on social media by noting he was back in Gialloblu “7339 days later.”

It ended 1-0 for Bochum, with Raman Chibsah scoring the only goal of the game at the 76th minute, but Buffon only played for the first half.

Parma: Buffon (Rinaldi 46), Sohm (Busi 46), Balogh (Dierckx 46), Valenti (S Iacoponi 46), Gagliolo (Vaglica 46), Kucka (Camara 46), Man (Sits 46), Brunetta (Hernani 46), Benedyczak (Marconi 46), Juric, D Iacoponi (Brugman 46)
