The group stage of the competition begins on Tuesday with two Serie A sides in action.

Napoli will host trophy holders Liverpool and their manager Jurgen Klopp at the Stadio San Paolo and the referee will be his fellow countryman Brych.

The entire officiating team is German, including Bastian Dankert and Marco Fritz in the VAR booth.

Brych is a 44-year-old lawyer who most notably was in charge of the 2017 Champions League Final, when Real Madrid beat Juventus 4-1.

His record with Liverpool is three wins, a draw and a defeat, most recently the 5-2 Champions League semi-final victory with Roma in April 2018.

Napoli had a rather worse history with Brych, winning once 4-2 with Benfica and losing the other two to Chelsea and Manchester City.
