Inter are using Joao Mario to tempt Sporting CP into a Bruno Fernandes sale. "Seeing my name associated with Inter is important."

It’d be a return to Serie A for the 24-year-old, who made his mark at Novara, Udinese and Sampdoria before the €10m sale to Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2017.

Fernandes has gone from strength to strength and was a key figure in the Portugal side that won the Nations League last night, beating the Netherlands 1-0.

He scored 32 goals with 18 assists in 52 club appearances this season and commands a transfer fee of at least €50m.

“I was very happy in Italy and still watch Serie A games regularly,” Bruno Fernandes told Sport Mediaset.

“I do not have the slightest idea if it’s true that Inter are interested in me. They have a great Coach now in Antonio Conte who did so well at Juventus and with Italy. Of course, seeing my name associated with Inter is important.”

Spurs and Manchester United are believed to have offered around €40m in cash, but Sport Mediaset claim Inter are taking a different approach.

They would include Portugal international midfielder Joao Mario as part of an exchange deal to lower the price-tag.

The 26-year-old is not part of new Inter Coach Antonio Conte’s plans and would relish a return to his old club, who he left for €40m in 2016.
