Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic says tomorrow’s Roma game “is certainly important” but not decisive.

The Nerazzurri were leading Serie A at the turn of the year, but have since fallen to fifth-place, five points behind Luciano Spalletti’s men.

“It’s certainly important, but let me make an observation,” Brozovic said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“If we win in Rome, then we lose the next game or don’t have consistency, what have we achieved?

Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic says tomorrow’s Roma game “is certainly important” but not decisive.

The Nerazzurri were leading Serie A at the turn of the year, but have since fallen to fifth-place, five points behind Luciano Spalletti’s men.

“It’s certainly important, but let me make an observation,” Brozovic said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“If we win in Rome, then we lose the next game or don’t have consistency, what have we achieved?

“Were we overrated in the first half of the season? We couldn’t give more than 100 per cent, and the right understanding didn’t emerge from the first half of the season.

“The 1-0 wins? If you win the League with only that result, good, we’d sign for that now, but don’t forget that in those games we had a lot of opportunities to score more goals.

“Also [goalkeeper Samir] Handanovic performed extraordinarily in the first half of the season.

“We dropped off because… that’s football. Because against Lazio we had chances and eventually lost in the 90th minute, because with Carpi we were ahead and controlling the game and eventually drew, because with Sassuolo we created five chances in the first half and eventually it ended badly.

“It’s obvious that I, like everyone else, look back on those games, the points dropped but there’s nothing we can do about it now.

“Now we just have to win nine out of nine.”

It has been suggested that Brozovic could leave San Siro if the Beneamata don’t qualify for the Champions League, but the Croatian insists he’s focused on Inter.

“I’m not thinking about that, believe me. Obviously after we can talk about everything, but not before, not before we’ve fought for this really important objective.

“We still have nine steps to take.”
