Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi and chairman Tony Bloom have won prizes at the 2023 Golden Boy Awards ceremony in Turin.

De Zerbi received the Pozzo award for the best Italian coach in 2023. He follows in the footsteps of previous winners Carlo Ancelotti (2022) and Antonio Conte (2021).

Under his stewardship, Brighton finished the 2022-23 season in a club-record sixth place in the Premier League. He had been considered a relative unknown to English football before replacing Graham Potter in September 2022.

Bloom, Brighton’s majority owner and chairman, meanwhile, was chosen for the Best President award, thanks to his guidance which has led Brighton to their first ever season in European competitions.

Tuttosport, the creators of the Golden Boy awards, referenced Brighton’s data-driven approach to analysis and their money-ball style in the transfer market as the reasons behind his nomination.

The outlet also sent representatives to hand the awards out to the Brighton pair in person in London earlier this week.
