Franco Brienza is excited to be back in Serie A after agreeing terms with Bologna. “This is an historic club.”

The 36-year-old was a free agent after his contract with Cesena expired, so put pen to paper on a new one-year deal.

“I am happy and was waiting for an opportunity like this,” the support striker told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I had offers from Serie B and wish to thank those clubs, but as soon as Bologna arrived it was all over. This is an important side and an historic club. They certainly need no introduction.

“I can’t wait to put myself at the disposal of my teammates and Coach to give them a hand. At my age it’s only right to sign a one-year contract and take it one season at a time.

“I had a great campaign and felt good. I hope to continue feeling good and we’ll see how it goes.”

Brienza was hugely impressive for Cesena last term, scoring eight Serie A goals and providing five assists.
