Torino boss Ivan Juric insists Gleison Bremer is the ‘best defender’ he’s ever coached ‘and I’ve worked with some good ones, including Cristian Romero.’

The Croatian tactician addressed the media at a post-match press conference in Turin after the Granata’s 4-2 loss against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.

Juric saw his former defender Bremer score a vital goal for Juventus in the second half, helping the Old Lady take the lead for the first time in the game.

“I think he’s the best defender I’ve ever coached and I’ve worked with some good ones such as Romero,” Juric said at a press conference attended by Football Italia in Turin.

“Bremer is spectacular. He always wants to improve and he’s worked so much on his technique. He is devastating defensively and he can still improve. However, I think my defender Perr Schuurs played a great game tonight. He was a hammer physically, he played really well.”

Schuurs joined Torino to replace Bremer last summer.

The Brazilian centre-back had played 33 games under Juric at Torino before a €50m move to the Allianz Stadium last summer.

Juric coached Romero at Genoa, but only for six games in 2018-19. The Argentina World Cup winner was named best Serie A defender for 2020-21 before his €50m transfer to Tottenham from Atalanta 18 months ago.

Tuesday’s 4-2 loss against Juventus means Torino are now 9th in the Serie A table, four points behind their city rivals who are currently occupying a Conference League spot.
