Juventus defender Gleison Bremer admits he must adapt to a new system and reveals the nickname Paul Pogba has chosen for him.

The Brazilian centre-back has signed with the Bianconeri in a €40m deal from Torino but was close to joining Inter, having negotiated with the Nerazzurri for several months.

“You journalists spoke about this. I talked to many clubs and I was closer to another Italian club. I knew I’d leave, but I didn’t know where. I’ve joined Juventus and I feel well,” the former Granata star told DAZN.

Max Allegri usually adopts a four-man defence, while Bremer was accustomed to playing in a three-man backline at Torino. What does he need to do to adapt to a new tactical approach?

“A strong defender must adapt to play with any system, three, or four-man defence, even one,” he said.

“This is important for the future, also for the national team who always play with four defenders.

“I must adapt to a new system, there are different things to do, it’s not just one vs. one, here we work with tactics and by reading the game.”

Will Juventus switch to a three-man defence?

“It could be, there are many games, so we could use that system in some games. I could play in the left, the same position as my last season.”

Bremer revealed during his unveiling press conference on Thursday that he had asked Giorgio Chiellini whether he could pick his No.3. Did the Italy defender tell Bremer that he wants him to become his heir?

“No, he didn’t, but we spoke together. He said I am strong. Hopefully, I’ll be able to do half of what he did here. He is in the history of Juventus, so it’d be nice to imitate him.”

Bremer managed to nullify Dusan Vlahovic last season when the Serbian forward was playing for Fiorentina and Torino. Have they spoken about it yet?

“We haven’t joked yet, but Vlahovic is a strong player. We need to improve, but I am sure he will score many goals.”

Has Paul Pogba already given him a nickname?

“Yes, he did. He calls me ‘Generale’, he is a nice person, he is always happy and wants to be in this team to win.”
