Gleison Bremer opened up about the difficulties endured by Juventus over the last two years, the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri and his interest in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old Brazilian centre back proved himself to be one of the best defenders in Serie A during his time with Torino, earning a circa €47m move to the Old Lady back in July 2022, replacing Matthijs de Ligt.
Bremer is contracted to Juventus to June 2028 but has been the target of a number of rumours ahead of the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting that he could be sold to fund the club’s targets. Thiago Motta is seemingly keen to work with the defender, which could change things.
Bremer interview
Speaking to Marca, Bremer first discussed the initial difficulties encountered following his move to Juventus.
“When I arrived at Juventus, it was a complicated period, we didn’t win, but we qualified for the Champions League, even if we were left out due to administrative issues. It was tough, they took away and then gave us back points, Allegri was very important then.”
The Brazilian defender commented on the bans suffered by Nicolo Fagioli and Paul Pogba this season.
“Two players of the highest level and two important people, for me Fagioli is like a brother, we spent a lot of time together and, fortunately, he came back to play at the end of the season. It’s a shame because with the whole group available, we would have fought for the Scudetto.”
Bremer weighed in on the recent dismissal of Allegri.
“No one could have expected, not even the coach, that it would end like this. It’s not up to us players to judge, but I only have words of gratitude for the coach, he wanted me and made me grow.
“I think I can improve a lot in everything. Allegri was an excellent defensive coach and, on the other hand, I think the next coach will really like possession. It will be a new challenge.”
He was asked if the next Juventus could would be Brazilian, a reference to Thiago Motta.
“Everyone is talking about it, but I don’t know anything about it yet. We’ll see who comes. We’re Juventus, so we need definitely a good manager to continue to grow. In two or three years, we will be fighting for the league title.
“We have a lot of young players, and we need more experienced players. I think the club will get important reinforcements, also thanks to the Champions League qualification, and this will help us.”
Finally, Bremer discussed his plans for the future, admitting an interest in the Premier League or La Liga.
“The Premier League is a league where everyone wants to play, but I think I’m at a great club, the biggest in the world. And I am very happy about this. I have just won my first title, the Coppa Italia, and I want to continue the story here.
“It’s obvious, however, that in the transfer market you can never say never. We’ll see what happens. There are clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona that are at the top of the world.
“Also, La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League are the best leagues in the world, so one day I’d like to try. But I repeat, I’m happy at Juventus.”
